In 1995 Drew Hemment established Futuresonic International Festival as a platformfor interdisciplinary excursions within electronic music,subsequently steering it to an event primarily engaged in media art.He is director and founder of Future Everything, a non-profit, research-active creative CIC ("community interest company"), recently awardedRFO status by ACE.

He is a lead artist in Loca, a collaborative arts-based project on mobilemedia and surveillance; developed as part of AHRC Research Fellow inCreative Technologies at University of Salford; presented atISEA2006 / ZeroOne (San Jose), Royal College of Arts (London),PixelACHE/Kiasma (Helsinki) and a Leonardo Electronic Almanac onlinegallery; profiled in New York Times and on NBC.

Hemment contributed to emergence of locative media in 2003; curated the firstin a series of international exhibitions on the field in 2004, MobileConnections; authored early texts including "Locative Dystopia" and"Locative Arts"; edited Locative Media double special issue ofLeonardo Electronic Almanac; founded PLAN, The Pervasive andLocative Arts Network, funded by Engineering and Physical SciencesCouncil and responsible for a series of influential events.

Hemment DJed at reggae blues, warehouse parties and clubs in early UK dancescene in late 1980s, involved as organiser and DJ in the seminal"Blackburn parties" said to be dance culture's equivalent of Woodstock.

His DJ performance on a mobile phone during ISEA2004 was a world firstand was covered by the New York Times.
