Craig Harris, currently the Managing Director of the Playwrights’Center, has been Executive Director of the Minneapolis-based dancecompany Ballet of the Dolls, the Ritz Theater Foundation, andLeonardo (International Society for the Arts, Sciences, andTechnology). A new-media artist and specialist in non-profit artsdevelopment and management, he has been consultant to universitiesand non-profit arts organizations on three continents, and holds aPh.D. in Music Composition from the Eastman School of Music. In Mayof 2006 he completed renovation of the Ritz Theater in NortheastMinneapolis, creating an important new regional performing arts venue.
Harris’ electroacoustic work, The Hill Has Something to Say,commissioned by soprano Renée Fleming, was premiered at Alice TullyHall in May 2000. His ballets The Red Shoes and SleepingBeauty were created for choreographer Myron Johnson and Balletof the Dolls, and mounted in Minneapolis in 2001 and 2003,respectively. His book Art and Innovation, documentingcollaborations between artists and research scientists at Xerox PaloAlto Research Center (PARC), was published in 1999 by MIT Press.Current work includes the creation of a multimedia oratorio, “FiveBooks – First Series,” commissioned by the Sabes JCC Center forJewish Arts and Humanities for performance during the 2007-2008Season.
