Giuseppe Pennisi

Giuseppe Pennisi has had three parallel careers before retiring from public service in February 2009 and taking up his present positions as Professor of Economics at the European University of Rome and at the University of Malta: a) he worked for over 15 years for the World Bank in various capacities (Chief of the Eastern and Southern Africa Education and Training Division, Program Coordinator for the Western African Region); b) he had senior positions within the Italian Government (Director General in the Ministries of Budget and Employment); c) he pursued an academic career in Italian and foreign Universities, spending his last 14 years of public service as coordinator of the economic programs of the Scuola Superiore della Pubblica Amministration. He authored and co-authored some 25 books, including some published in the U.S., France, and Germany. He contributes frequently to newspapers and periodicals. As an opera buff since his youth, he has a column on opera in Italian weekly and writes often for Opera Today.
