SPECIAL PROJECTS:Artificial Life ProjectArtificial Life (A-Life) is a research area that focuses on the computer simulation of life processes such as reproduction and evolution. Artists are currently using the systems and phenomena of A-Life to address issues of contemporary science and technology and twentieth-century life. Leonardo and Leonardo Electronic Almanac, with the assistance of guest editor Kenneth Rinaldo, published papers and works in print and on-line in this topic area. The Sixth Annual New York Digital Salon special issue of Leonardo 31, No. 5 (1998) in print included a special section devoted to the topic and to the writings of artists and theorists. Leonardo Electronic Almanac has focused on A-Life as an ongoing topic area in various issues of the on-line journal. First posted 11 March 1999 |
