Michelle Rau of Factsheet Five offers these reflections on the zine publisher as an agent of change:
Absolutely, I see zine editors as agents of social change. I'll be brief. . . . Zine publishing helps create, among other things, the expectation that making one's views heard/seen/published is a democratic write---e.g., that anyone can do it. I helps empower people by helping them feel that they *can* be heard by other people, regardless of how few people. . . . It's an antidote to the powerlessness and silencing we feel when confronted by mass-media images with little relationship to real life.
